Academics

Our approach to academics is guided by the “most excellent way” described in 1 Corinthians 12:31—love. From this perspective, we follow four key principles:

1. Education for Life
We encourage students to explore their interests and develop their unique, God-given talents. Through flexible schedules, individualized programs, and opportunities like AP classes and college courses, students are able to make their education practical and meaningful.

2. Teach to Reach
We focus on true understanding rather than just passing tests. By using a variety of assessments, we inspire curiosity, helping students grow, discover, and enjoy learning.

3. Take Responsibility
With a low student-to-teacher ratio, students are supported in taking ownership of their learning. They are encouraged to seek wisdom, build strong character, and develop skills that will guide them throughout life.

4. Love Others
We believe success is measured by how students impact others. Students are encouraged to use their knowledge and abilities to serve, support, and uplift those around them.

Electives and Bible

In addition to core classes, LCA students take elective and Bible courses. These classes are offered at various times—before school, after school, on certain days of the week, or even on weekends—giving students flexibility to build a schedule that fits their interests and commitments.

Although the core school day is shorter than a traditional schedule, the flexible elective and Bible program allows students to spend more time in hands-on learning environments, often earning more creditsthan students in standard school schedules.

Core School Day

LCA offers a flexible daily schedule similar to what students experience at the university level. Unlike traditional high schools, the core school day runs Monday through Friday from9:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M.During this time, students take two 75-minute core classes and one elective per semester in subjects such as English, math, science, and history.

This structure allows core academic instruction to be completed efficiently, leaving the remainder of the day open for electives, activities, and other opportunities.

Benefits of LCA’s Schedule

1. Later start time, which research shows can improve student focus, behavior, and well-being.

2. Flexible scheduling, allowing participation in electives, Bible classes, sports, community college courses, jobs, and other activities.

3. More engaging classes, many taught by experts and designed around practical, hands-on learning.

4. University preparation, since the semester system and flexible scheduling closely mirror a college environment.

LCA’s approach allows students to pursue their interests, gain real-world experience, and still have time for family and life outside of school
